History

The original hall burned down in 15th December 1915. It took nearly ten years to raise the money needed to fund a replacement. They used a system of weekly contributions deducted from miners wages to build and run the new building which doesn’t quite sit directly on the site of the old building.

Building work began in the 1920’s around 1924 for a cinema with seating for a thousand people. There is a 20ft by 60ft stage with dressing rooms and a lounge situated below. A library and a billiard room above. Originally silent films were shown until the 1930’s.

There was an official opening ceremony on the 15th of may 1926. There was a major grant-aided renovation in the 1990s. Today the hall is still in use as the local cinema and is used by the cast of Galaxy Theatre arts to perform stage shows. Harry (Henry) Jones was a previous manager and prominent figure and Morgan Leonard is fondly remembered by members at the hall.

Investigation

The group arrived at 9 pm and were met by Brian, who showed us to the room we would use as base room. Here we met various other committee members and were shown around the extensive building.

Temp reading 13.5, EMF normal readings higher by electrics and coin slots.

Trudy sitting on bench at rear of room sensed something around right hand side slightly to the back of her, Orbs filmed in same place coming down as she spoke of it and shadows filmed moving across in front of her. A few minutes later Tracy and Rhiannon sitting the other side of room both smelt a musty ‘old’ smell. Rhiannon moved to sit by Trudy and both felt something around them. Cold spots felt by both, Tracy moved to join them but temp was normal 13.5. A night vision camera was placed on table to film all three, again something was felt to right of Trudy. Russ positioned out near doorway, heard knocks coming from the stairs behind him.

When Group 2 investigated same room later in the night, temp was recorded at 15.5, Carrie and Diane sat on rear bench and both felt bench rock, knocking was heard near snooker cue stand in rear corner. Diane started coughing and felt like she had breathed in cigarette smoke. Trigger object was set up on table but no movement was recorded by end of night. Many shadows were seen by eye by all members, we all felt this was quite prominent in room. A general dislike was felt by the woman in group 2 of this room, while Dave felt comfortable. Some unexplained flashes were seen by some members. The names Doug, Jackie and Gabriel came to members and were noted. 2 members of group 2 spent some time sitting in mid stair area when asking out many definite knocks were heard and even seemed to be copied on request. Both members sat on stairs reported shortness of breath and a tightening of chest and a loud gasping breath was heard. A photograph was taken at this time and a large orb was captured right in front of person on stair.
