About The Ram Inn

Report written by Trudy

The Ram Inn is owned by a Mr John Humphries, and has been in his care since he purchased it from the brewery that owned it in 1968 for the sum of £2,600.

It seems that the history of this site goes back a long way, the Inn is believed to of been built as far back as 1145, and it is mentioned in some write ups, that it is also built on an old Pagan site and graveyard which was used for ceremonial human sacrifices. There does however seem to be some confusion over certain “features” believed to be attached to the Inn, such as the undiscovered tunnel which was supposed to lead from the house to the nearby church and was there due to the house being a church house at one time, this seems to be a very unlikely feature as the Inn is set very low in the valley and an apparent high water table would make such a feature unfeasible.

However the Inn is said to be close to a Henge and built on a Ley line, and archaeologists have discovered graves containing children’s bones under the building and two ceremonial daggers are reported as being found in these locations.

On his purchase of The Ram Inn in 1968, Mr Humphries was unaware of any haunting or unusual activity at the site, until he was awoken one night by a pair of icy hands trying to pull him from his bed.

The list of phenomena at this site that I have found out about are as follows:-

A black cat like creature is said to roam through a room there, a succubus, poltergeist activity prevalent, mists, doors banging, door handles rattling, strange noises, objects moved, light anomalies, a child crying, ghost of an Inn Keeper, a monk and a Cavalier as well as that of a grey lady and the list goes on.

A very popular site with paranormal investigators and all are warmly welcomed by Mr Humphries.

Rooms of interest are the Beaufort room, the Bishops room, the Weavers attic and the bar area.

The site seems well worth a visit from the information available about it, and I am sure it will be a site worthy of more than one investigation.

The Investigation

During the initial walk around everything seemed very quiet, however a few

light anomalies were captured both in the witches room and in the bishops room.

Two new members of the group, who had not been to the Ram before, entered the room first and when the rest of the team followed they immediately asked if a cat had been sighted there before as they thought they had seen one. On asking John, the owner of the Ram, we discovered that other people have often reported seeing it.

What happened to these two members later on in the investigation is by far the most interesting event of the night. They were both sitting on the centre bed in the bishop’s room, all other group members were elsewhere in the building. They were talking amongst themselves, when suddenly one of them noticed a large lump in the bed like ‘someone’ was actually lying in it, you can clearly see this on the footage and the two girls discuss what it was or what it could be and they begin arguing who is actually going to lean over and touch it. They lean forward with their hands but can’t quite reach it without going too close which they are obviously reluctant to do and as a last resort one of the girls actually turns on the bed and tries to push it or kick at it with her foot. When this happens as the girls foot nears the ‘lump’ in the bed.. the covers instantly go flat again. When watching the footage back you find yourself looking for something shooting out or being pulled out from the side of the bed but you can clearly see both sides of the bed on the footage and the lump disappearing but nothing is seen coming from the bed on either side, or at least nothing that can be seen with the naked eye or has been picked up on camera. This event was very strange and considerably unnerved the two newest members of the group.
