Report Written by Trudy
Date; Saturday March 18th 2006
Investigators Present; Russ, G, Trudy, Michelle, Sarah, Kaye, Zoe, Tracy, Dave and Diane.
Guests; Anne and Val (Gateshead Paranormal)
History;
Maes Artro is a former RAF base. It was in operation during the war and opened as a museum shortly afterwards. It housed a vast collection of planes and RAF memorabilia and it had numerous exhibitions, including an original air raid shelter, to depict life on an RAF base during the war.
In time of war, numerous pilots died on site during training exercises and it is thought two of these still roam the area. German prisoners were held at the base and some were buried alongside their allied counterparts. Historians believe the site was once a druid settlement and it is thought the base and latterly the museum lies on the centre of a lay line. The area is steeped in history, legend and alleged paranormal activity. It has attracted a great deal of interest from psychic mediums and investigators. There have been many reported sightings of the two pilots said to roam the area and also of a small boy frequently seen in the air raid shelter.
Investigation Preparation;
The entire team toured the area establishing where the usable buildings were and noted any unsafe areas. Base line testing was not done at this time, which is the usual team routine, due to the vast area they had to cover and it was felt base line recordings would be more effective and accurate if done in each section prior to investigation start.
Investigation;
Group 1 – Trudy, Anne, Val, Zoe, Kaye and Tracy
Vigil 1 – The Morgue
Start time - 21.35
Temp - 2*C/2.5*C
EMF – 1-8 fluctuation throughout
Points of note – Glass reflections from empty tanks (area had been turned into an aquarium exhibit and then abandoned); Lack of door at rear of morgue; Evidence of Rodents; surprisingly quiet area considering high winds outside.
Equipment in use – EMF, Temp Gauges, Motion detectors, Night vision Camcorders and digital cameras.
The team spent some time in this area sitting quietly, bitterly cold, the empty tanks and the eeriness of the morgue certainly helped to chill the atmosphere. After a time the team decided to split and investigate separate areas of the morgue. Down the bottom end of the building there were bright white, flashes of light that three of the group members picked up on and could see with the naked eye, unfortunately even though pictures were taken immediately there was nothing showing up on digital camera, but later viewed footage shows some of these lights were picked up by the night vision camcorder.
On the opposite side of the building the other three members thought they had seen a shadow in the open doorway, one of the group members felt sick and there was a sudden warm breeze which was surprising in such a cold area. In this same area a light anomaly was photographed with the digital camera.
Group 2 – Michelle, Sarah, Diane, Dave, Russ and G
Vigil 1 – RAF museum
Start time – 21.45
Temp - -3*C
EMF – Numerous traces of EMF in second exhibit room, initially around the raised concrete floor. One group member felt that there was no reason why the readings were being activated, however it did seem they were following her from behind. After the readings were taken a light anomaly was picked up in the area of the raised concrete floor.
