Light Anomalies
Light Anomalies (or Orbs as they are more commonly known) ; are balls of light which can be completely transparent or display themselves in a bright solid form, these orbs are believed by many people to be spirits, or rather a manifestation of a spirit in its simplest form. These are allegedly earth bound spirits that have willingly/unwillingly stayed behind because they feel attached to their previous life or previous location for whatever reason.
Most light anomalies caught on camera, it is claimed, are merely the result of dust and even weather conditions such as rain and humidity.
Can dust feasibly cause light anomalies?
Many investigators of the paranormal believe so, but how can they explain only a few anomalies in photographs when many have been taken at the same time in an area with not just the one camera but often many. Photographs have been taken consecutively with just the one camera and anomalies have appeared in only one of the photographs taken. It is claimed moisture, dust and airborne particles up close to the lens at the time of the flash can and will affect the results of pictures.
If it were a case of dust having been stirred up surely all photographs in any given area at a given time by the same camera at least would pick up the dust in every photograph taken consecutively?
“Because of the nature of the lens inherent with the digital camera, it tries to focus upon the dust particle and bring it into focus; however the resulting orb is a factor of both the circular lens of the camera, and the distance between the lens and the surface of the sensor. This does not happen with a 35mm camera, due to the distance between the lens and the surface of the sensor being much larger, thus more time is allowed for the image to be produced”.
Why are they most frequently seen as ‘balls’ of light?
It is supposed ‘spirits’, if indeed that’s what you believe they are, (I am still sitting firmly on the fence) prefer the form of a ball of light (orb) because it takes less energy. The theory is that small "orbs" take up the least amount of energy and apparitions and other fuller shapes take up the most, presumably for this reason sprits would all choose this method of manifestation above all others. Another theory believes the anomalie is simply the energy being transferred from a source. According to the laws of Physics energy being transferring like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere. Energy from for example power lines, batteries, even people, etc to the spirit will, in theory, enable it to find the energy to manifest.
One thing that stands out about ‘orbs’; they have become the most used, and now by many widely accepted, type of photographic evidence by ghost investigators. Photography experts claim orbs are simply reflective bodies – returning the light from its original source within the camera, either from the flash or the IR LED’s a feature common to most if not quite all of them. It is claimed by experts, orbs only appear when the digital camera is using it’s built in flash, or they only appear when the night vision is being used on the camcorder and they very rarely appear in flash pictures taken using a 35mm film cameras.
At this stage we can all speculate and theorise but it has to be for the individual themselves to decide, on their own beliefs and thoughts on the issue until we can find a way to prove/disprove such things through science. One thing to keep in mind; there have been hundreds of ‘orbs’ photographed, in all sorts of locations and environmental conditions, with many different types and makes of camera’s. Whether these orbs have been photographed in supposedly ‘haunted’ locations or not……there have been far too many of them to be feasibly classed as ‘paranormal’.
Paranormal as we know is anything unexplainable and I feel at the moment that’s still where we’re at with ‘ORBS’.
